Aging Gracefully: Tips for a Healthy Mind and Body

Aging Gracefully: Tips for a Healthy Mind and Body

Aging is a natural part of life that often brings wisdom and experience. Society usually shows images of youth, making many people think that looking younger is the secret to aging well. However, aging isn’t about trying to look like you're in your 20s. It's about accepting the journey of life and focusing on both your physical and mental health.

Incorporating healthy and beauty products into your routine can also help you feel your best as you age. In this blog, we will explore practical strategies for aging gracefully, from skincare routines to hobbies that bring joy, and how The Healtheory’s products can support you on this journey.

1. Be Kind to Your Skin

Your skin is your body's largest organ and serves several vital functions, including protecting your body from environmental hazards and regulating temperature. Use these suggestions to maintain the best-looking skin:

  • Use gentle products in your anti-aging skincare routine. Strong chemicals can damage skin over time, and processed seed oils should be avoided (read all labels!  Look for sunflower, safflower, sesame, grapeseed, rice bran and avoid these oils.  They are usually heavily processed and contain high amounts of linoleic acid.  Avocado, jojoba, almond, olive and other naturally pressed oils are much safer and are common in quality cosmetic products.)
  • Stay hydrated. Water consumption with electrolytes (sodium, chloride, magnesium) is crucial for preserving the softness of the skin and general health.
  • Wash your face consistently.  By washing your face in the morning and at night and following a regular skincare routine , you are inviting your skin to absorb the quality ingredients from your products.  Evening wash is the time to remove industrial pollution we pick up as we go about our day and allow you to focus treatment on specific concerns (wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, etc).  In the morning, you are building up your skin’s biome with some extra protections against environmental exposures.
  • Perform Regular Massage.  Fascia is connective tissue that lies under our skin from head to toe.  It is all connected, and by performing regular facial and scalp massage, you can help your body keep your face lifted and reduce puffiness from lymph.  Scalp massage also improves circulation to the scalp and can strengthen hair growth.
  • Find time to enjoy the sun.  This is the best source of Vitamin D, and will keep you healthy year round.  It is natural for humans to spend time in the sun!  As you reduce your exposure to seed oils, your skin will process sunlight better over time and you will also sunburn less and less as long as you expose yourself to sun regularly.  Remember, when you travel and quickly change latitudes you are also giving your skin sudden exposure to a new balance of sunlight so take precautions and slowly expose yourself to sun at new latitudes.

Consider incorporating The Healtheory’s detox sauna blanket into your routine. It helps detoxify your body, promoting healthier skin from the inside out.

2. Exercise Regularly

Stay active!  Regular physical activity is vital for aging gracefully. It significantly lowers the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, and helps maintain mobility as you age. You can include these activities.

    • Walking
    • Swimming
    • Dancing
    • Cycling
  • Weightlifting
  • Consider using our infrared PEMF mat to enhance your post-workout recovery. It might lessen muscle aches and increase blood flow.  Choose a type of exercise that you can continue to perform consistently rather than starting an intense program that you do not maintain.  Start with walking every day!  Add in weightlifting or other fitness as you improve.

    3. Mind Your Diet

What you consume has a significant impact on your aging process and how your skin appears. A healthy diet can help you maintain energy levels, support bodily functions, and keep your skin radiant.

    • Eat locally produced food as much as possible, since local food is absorbing the same balance of sunlight that you do through your skin.  This practice helps your body stay connected with where you are.
    • Vitamin C is your skin’s friend!  Enjoy foods high in vitamin C, as it helps you build collagen and even out skin tone, whether applied topically or consumed through nutrition.  Invest in a countertop juicer and enjoy fresh squeezed citrus juices daily.
    • Include a good amount of natural protein in your diet (target consuming one gram of protein per day per desired body weight).
    • Incorporating healthy animal fats into your diet such as beef tallow, ghee/butter, and duck fat as well as coconut, avocado, and olive oil.  The Healtheory recommends avoiding processed seed oils such as canola/rapeseed, corn, safflower, sunflower, soybean, grapeseed, and rice bran whether in food products, cosmetics, or other household products.  These oils are heavily processed to make them non-toxic to humans, but these processes do not make them natural for us to consume and can lead to excessive sunburn as well as cellulite accumulation.
    • Enjoy fermented foods daily.  Kefir, salt pickles (pickled with salt rather than vinegar), sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, yogurt, miso, tempeh, sourdough bread, and natto are all excellent sources of fermented foods.  Eat at least a bite or two of your favorite fermented foods daily to help your gut health, heart health and maybe even cancer prevention and weight loss.
    • Reduce your exposure to microplastics wherever possible.  Store food in glass containers, do not heat food that wrapped in plastic, try to select food packaged in non-plastic options.  Avoid plastic bottled water if possible since bottled water is often heated unexpectedly during transportation or delivery.  We are heavily reliant on plastics in our food storage, so this change can take some time and may be difficult to avoid altogether, especially since many paper cartons and aluminum cans are also plastic lined.  We encourage you to start evaluating your exposure to plastics and reduce wherever it seems possible.
    • Avoid using iodized table salt and instead stick with natural sea salts.  Healthy natural salt consumption can improve blood pressure and overall health.  There are some “microplastic free” sea salts available as well.

Avoid processed foods and excessive amounts of refined sugars.

    4. Prioritize Mental Health

A positive mindset is essential for aging gracefully. Here are some tips to elevate your mood and reduce stress:

    • Connect with loved ones. Building and maintaining strong relationships can enhance your mental and physical health.
    • Make new friends.  Try new activities or talk to new people as you go about your day. Share a smile and you might get one back!
    • Learn something.  It's a big and always changing world.  Try and learn something to keep your brain active.
    • Accept your age. Thinking positively about yourself can help you live longer and recover more quickly from health problems.
    • Do things you enjoy. Whether it's being outdoors, trying a new hobby, or helping others, doing what makes you happy can lift your mood.

These activities keep you engaged in life and also allow you to experience life more fully. Consider using The Healtheory’s red light therapy full-body wrap as a part of your daily routine.  Five minutes is enough for a full treatment and benefit, but you can use red light for longer if you enjoy it.  Some of our users enjoy daily 90 minute sessions while working!  It helps to ease muscle tension and promote relaxation, making your recovery process even more effective.

    5. Manage Stress Effectively

Stress can cause a number of health problems, including early aging. Here are a few practical strategies for lowering stress:

    • Practice relaxation techniques, such as meditation, yoga, or deep-breathing exercises.
    • Engage in regular exercise to release endorphins that help improve your mood.
    • Ensure you get adequate sleep to help your body recover and rejuvenate.
    • Seek assistance from friends and family when you need it.  Sometimes just sharing what you are experiencing can help you feel better.
    • Remember that stress is a natural part of life, you just want to keep it at a manageable level.  Recognize it when you experience it, and take breaks or perform breathing exercises to keep it from overcoming you.

Our pulsed electromagnetic therapy mat can also help reduce stress. It promotes relaxation and improves overall well-being.

    6. Get Enough Sleep

Adequate sleep is vital for physical and mental health, and for life.  Sleep is when your body renews itself.  It plays a significant role in how your skin ages and how you feel overall. Try to get enough hours of sound sleep every night that you wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Lower the risk of heart disease and stroke
    • Reduce stress and depression
    • Help maintain a healthy weight
    • Improve focus and concentration

Our customers report improved sleep from using The Healtheory’s: PEMF Treatment Mat, Infrared Sauna Blanket, as well as Red Light Therapy Wrap.
